ドーナツの中心みたいに、存在いない何かを「ある」と宣言できた人には、ものすごいお金が集まってくる。

医療においてはたとえば、「健康」というものは、「病気でない」ことで定義される。病気の定義は様々で、「病気でない」一定の状態を取り巻くように、「病気の状態」というものは、あたかもドーナツのように分布する。

ドーナツの真ん中には空間が、「病気でない状態」で漠然と存在していて、その中心にあるであろう、あるのかもしれない「健康」という状態は、医療では定義できないし、そこには実際、向かうべき中心なんて存在しない。

健康食品を売り歩いたり、あるいはアンチエイジングを唱える人達は、ドーナツの真ん中にある空間に、「ここが中心だ」という一点を指差し、叫ぶ。

中心がここと決まれば、「病気でない」空間で暮らす全ての人は、「中心からの距離」という序列が生まれる。序列ができて、誰もが中心を目指すことが正義であるという認識が共有されれば、中心に向かうための薬や指導、販売される食品は、莫大な富をもたらす。
